“In 2010 I began to ride my congenital attraction for architecture: its huge volumes and gigantism, its shapes and textures… Fascinated by perspective I was taking photographs without fully understanding what my attention was being attracted too, what I was trying to represent with a shot and subsequent post-production. Photography was an opportunity to take a fragment of reality and give it a meaning, but also, conversely, as an expedient to let a significance take possession of reality to bring out himself. The contrast between these two visions became the source of my own reflections. Slowly I realized that psychology was an integral part of my creative experience. That I was not trying to represent architecture, but to use a photograph as way to strike and confuse my perceptive system. Therefore I started producing the first works that were later to be structured in the “Istigkeit” series…

While creating these images i realized that i was getting ever closer to the idea which was guiding me. Trying to invalidate the perceptual and cognitive mechanisms involved in the conceptualization of a given entity by our brains. At first sight each work in the “Istigkeit” series seems different from what it is; and what it is; is not always visible, or at least not clear and obvious. Volumes are artificially combined in the shadows and give rise to solids whose meticulous analysis reveals their illusory value. You follow a surface which then splits. You focus on walls and windows, but these interact and merge into conflicting objects and paradoxical perspectives. The sight is lost in the complexity of textures, intersections and overlays. Nothing is what it is and everything is what it seems. And sometimes, during the perception of what it seems, inside the mental mechanisms that lead to the interpretation of any given scenario, it’s possible your Ego cannot impose itself on a more primitive interpretation, rooted both in individual, collective, cultural and archetypal symbolic components…” ~ Mattia Mognetti

Aras Karimi : Photography Series

“I was only 5 years old when light first grabbed my attention. I was sitting in a room by a window with shuttered heavy curtains, leaving only a small distance in between them, where a miracle was happening. Contrasting with the dark room a ray of light was brightening a narrow space, I could see the playful movement of dust in the air that was visible to me for the first time. I was mesmerized, not just for seeing the dust but for feeling something novel, powerful, and beautiful: – light.” ~ Aras Karimi

Photography is a relationship between light and film: light as a playful actor and film as a serious recorder. A photographers job, experimental by nature, is to write the best scenario for this one-time instant play. A genuine play is inevitably the result of accurate eyes, free mind, and fundamentals of photography at heart. Light is the subject of my works. Unlike the usual process in photography that uses light as a mean to record a scene and tell its story, I’m interested in light as a story teller. In fact the scene in my works is the medium to picture light, its mood on different surfaces, and its personality in different spaces. My photographs are purposefully Untitled. I like to give a chance to the viewer to experience their own emotion while they’re coinciding with an expression of mine. It’s also unnatural to apply a rational meaning to something that is opposite from being a product of intellect as all of my works are pure reflections of my vision, and emotion at the moment the shot is taken.” Artist Statement

Azurebumble : ‘AI : Series’ (Photography Book)

Recently, I’ve curated a number of image series by photographers from ‘Flickr’ on my blog ‘Aesthetic Investigations’. Subsequently, I thought it would be interesting to document these works in a book. Therefore, i’ve arranged a collection of ’39’ abstract and minimal photographic series by these ’32’ artists. Tàpies shared a general sensibility which affected artists on both sides of the Atlantic after the Second World War and the dropping of the atomic bomb, and soon expressed an interest in matter – earth, dust, atoms and particles – which took the shape of the use of materials foreign to academic artistic expression and experiments with new techniques. He believes that the notion of matter must also be understood from the point of view of Medieval mysticism as magic, mimesis and alchemy. That is how we must see his wish for his works to have the power to transform our inner selves.

The works of the last years are, most of all, a reflection on pain – both physical and spiritual – understood as an integral part of life. Influenced by Buddhist thought, Tàpies believes that a better knowledge of pain allows us to soften its effects and therefore improve our quality of life. The passage of time, which has always been a constant in his work, now takes on fresh nuances when lived as a personal experience which brings greater self-knowledge and a clearer understanding of the world.

He’s consolidated an artistic language which visually conveys both his conception of art and certain philosophical concerns which have been renewed over the years. His practice is still open to the brutality of the present while offering a form which, despite its ductility, remains faithful to its origins. So the works of the last few years aren’t only fully contemporary, they’re also a record of his own past.

My pre-occupation as an artist is with creating highly distilled, contemplative nuances of feeling in print. I aim to compose images – drawn from nature and memory – of stark yet tactile forms, held momentarily out of balance; forms disappearing into immaterial shadows and configurations of form in spatial settings, undergoing transformation. I’m fascinated by forms appearing like projections onto surfaces, fragile and immaterial articulations, punctuated by the interplay of light and shade. Re-discovering delicate forms in space at distances defined by rhythm and structure, are of interest to me.

My objective is to create a state of suspension of individual elements, caught in a complex of layers with deceptive simplicity. The creation of these images is intuitive in nature. The creative process is ongoing, with every intuition, reflection and configuration, pre-figuring another possibility. The printing process is an integral part of my working process. The separation and building up of layers, multiple overprinting, the use of inks of differing viscosities – these modifications inform the work as it evolves. The tactile qualities of print-making, the depth and richness of surface, are crucial. – [Artists Statement]
