A need for change and exploration is reflected in Carol’s approach to painting, which is constantly evolving and questioning. The work offers glimpses of recognisable worlds, yet are deceptive about their apparent familiarity. The images are generally subject-based and rooted in something closely observed, tending to suggest subject matter rather than represent it, a visual search for equilibrium of subjectivity and objectivity. Forms are chosen not as symbols for symbolic functions but rather as a means of shaping colour. The ambiguous lighting and the quiet stillness offer a balm for the senses.
